The Autumn and Winter line-up looks great for men’s fashion this year. Designers are featuring bold colours and textures, with an emphasis being put on military designs (a style that seems to come back every year!). Along with returning trends, there are several new styles which may catch your eye.
As mentioned, the Military trend continues to be extremely popular moving in to 2012. From coats and jackets to accessories such as belts and shoes, numerous designers are putting military fashion out on the catwalk. Notable designers backing the military look this year are Alexander McQueen and Versace.
The preppy look refuses to die! Well suited to those who prefer a more casual look, the preppy look embraces bright colours and closely tailored yet comfortable fits. Tommy Hilfiger, D&G and Vivienne Westwood are all pushing the look this year. Wear bright cardigans with well fitted trousers and stylish plimsolls. For the office, wear a closely tailored suit with a polar neck.
Luxurious fabrics are hitting the catwalk in a big way this year. Paying homage to the exuberance of the seventies, this look isn’t for the shy and retiring type. Cashmere, fur and leather outerwear are all making a strong comeback (fur has been remerging in women’s fashion for a few years, and it seems men are now getting in on the action). Key designers include Versace and Salvatore Ferragamo.
Similarly to last year, chunky knits and bold cardigans/jumpers are hot on the catwalk. This is great for those who like to wrap up in an oversized scarf. 2011/2012 features bold colours and Nordic patterns, although subtle block colours are as popular as ever. Designers putting the look on the runway include Missoni , Hermes and Versace.
2012 looks like it’ll be a year that hasn’t strayed too far from 2011 in terms of fashion. Although trends are very similar, there are numerous variations in materials, fabrics, patterns and colour. Don’t throw out all of last year’s clothes just yet; watch the catwalks and accessorise last year’s wardrobe with key pieces from contemporary ranges.
Hats are making a very much in this winter, so don’t be afraid to wear a large chunky hat, complete with bobble. It seems that emphasis is being put on comfort; the general feeling of the catwalk this year was: comfy and stylish. Extremely attainable looks for those who’d like to translate the catwalk to the high street.
