Here you thought your wedding band was impressive, think again!  Luke Jerram, an artist in the UK, came up with a way to turn simple wedding bands into a mini projector and record player.  Your wedding ring may be adorned with diamonds and precious stones, but can it project photographs?  Jerram’s can!
Jerram came up with the idea initially when he was trying to make the most suitable ring for his fiance.  He decided to go against traditional engagement rings and wedding bands, instead he opted to incorporate more meaning behind the ring.  He took a simple wedding band and added individual slides into the metal.  The individual slides are then projected with a camera lens.  When any light source hits the ring, the picture slides are then projected onto the opposing surface.  Luke Jerram drew his inspiration from Stanhopes, a 19th century optical device that served as a mini magnifying device.

If you thought he outdid you with projection wedding band, just wait, it gets even better!  Not only did he use the ring as a form of photographic projection, he turned the ring into a mini record player.  Jerram recorded and etched a 20 second message onto the engagement ring for his one of a kind proposal.
Naturally, Jerram’s creation caught the eye of many brides-to-be and guys wanting to surprise their fiance.  Jerram reports that couples from all over the world contact him asking for a similar ring.  Unfortunately Jerram’s projection ring is a first and a last.  He wants his ring for his wife to be unique and meaningful, so he’s not making any more.

So what can we take away from this? Besides the fact that this ring is off-limits and most of us won’t be able to have the skills and creativity to create a ring as awesome as Jerram’s, the lesson is that it’s the thought that matters at the end of the day.  Sure diamond wedding bands, precious gemstones and precious metals are appealing, but what counts the most is the effort and the symbolism of the ring.

Prabal Gurung toyed with contrast; starting out with dark colors and transitioning to lighter and brighter colors.   In just 3 years, Prabal Gurung has made his statement in NY fashion week.  His opening looks incorporated the use of black neoprene, patent leather, and use of geometric shapes.  His inspiration for Fall 2012 NYFW was the “blue rose”.  The blue rose is a symbolism of technology combined with nature.   He progressed into the show with more natural fabrics and colors that were softer.  Black neoprene and leather turned into gold and white, ruffles, sequins, and gold lame.  In his collection, Gurung incorporated a mixture of gold lame and gold sequins on 4 separate dresses.  The gold dresses are definitely attention grabbing and sleek.  You’ll be sure to be seen donning one of Gurung’s golden dresses-perfect for a fancy night out or a night out in town!

Jason Wu

For his Fall 2012 line, Jason Wu found his inspiration from ancient Chinese history-the Qing dynasty to be exact.  His looks incorporated both masculine and feminine characteristics.  Everything in his line was very tailored and had a perfect fit for each model.  He balanced masculinity with feminine touches using gold brocades, fancy ornamentation, lace, and fur accents.  Unlike other designers, Wu used gold throughout his designs in the fabrics he picked.  Gold symbolized wealth and power in the Qing dynasty, which is why Wu incorporated golden fabrics and golden details throughout his designs.
