5 places you HAVE to go when you come to New York, no matter what.

1. Metropolitan Museum

Why?  Where else can you find Picasso, Monet, Native American Art, and Egyptian art, architecture, and culture all under the same roof?  Though the suggested donation fee is 20 dollars to get in, you can pretty much pay them a dime and they’re obligated to let you in.  If you need to cool off and want to educate yourself or just sit and stare at early cubist art, this is the place to do it.

2. Grand Central Terminal

Forget the fact that it’s one of the largest train stations and subway intersections on the easy coast.  The Grand Central Terminal has a truly interesting secret called the “whispering gallery”.  It’s possible for you and a friend to stand on opposite sides of the station and if you speak, your friend will be able to hear you as if you were right there with them.
Grand Central is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan, on 42nd Street and Park Avenue.

Train - MTA Metro-North Railroad
Subway - 4, 5, 6, 7, and S lines
Bus - M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M42, M98, M101, M102, M104, Q32

3. MOMA

Perhaps one of the only museums to benefit from the Industrial Revolution, the MoMA is one of the few places where you’ll find airplane parts, clocks, radios, and trash as the highlights of the various exhibitions held there.  Friday nights are free and college students are free anytime.
MoMA is located at 11 West Fifty-third Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues.

Subway: E or V to Fifth Avenue/53 Street; B, D, or F to 47-50 Streets/Rockefeller Center.
Bus: M1, 2, 3, 4, 5 to 53 Street

4. Times Square:

Some people praise it for Broadway, its restaurants, and large LCD screens with advertisements plastered all over them.  But the real party in Times Square is located at the huge Toys R Us with its indoor Ferris Wheel.  Lets also not forget the giant M&M store with enough chocolate to flood the entire area.
Address: Midtown Manhattan @ 42nd Str, Broadway & 7th Ave
Directions: Subway at 42nd / St Times Square – Broadway (Q, W, R, N, 1, 2, 3, 7)

5. Coney Island

The days of The Warriors, sideshow freaks and all around insanity are waning in the area of Coney island.  However no one is letting any sort of housing development stand in their way of keeping Coney Island a crazy fun place with just a little bit for everyone.  Just make sure to have a sense of humor on hand with your other on your wallet.  If you’re around at the right time you’ll even catch the drag Mermaid Parade.
